Mrs Terri Schiavo (the courageous woman that i was talking about previously; the court ordered her feeding tube to be removed- something that has been fought for 7 years by her parents and husband), died on thursday, 13 days after her feeding tube's been removed. she was brain damaged because of her heart not functioning in 1990, and that deprived her brain of oxygen. courts (not the departmental store, idiots) "ruled her as a 'persistent vegetative state'". "courts had long sided with her husband and legal guardian, Mr Michael Schiavo, in ruling she would not have wanted to live in that condition and she should be allowed to die." her parents didnt succeed in persuading the judge or any other court that she would want to live. (facts taken from The Straits Times, Friday, 1st April 2005)
silence please, for mrs terri.
she didnt have a choice to do anything except be left in hunger for 13 days just because her husband concluded that she would rather die, although her parents argued otherwise, saying that she responded everytime they talked to her. pity, because i always feel that sometimes parents know best. i still feel that it's cruel to take her life away like that; depriving her of food. couldnt you just inject something to make her go away quickly? she might as well be dumped in the desert without food and water. it's the same thing. still, herein lies a moment for her.
sometimes humanity makes me wonder a whole lot on what it is that makes us human.
